How to Search for Older Queensland Lot/Plan References Using Free-Text

Can’t find your QLD plan type? Use Free-Text in Title Search.

Written by Georgie Edgerton

You can find and order documents for Queensland (QLD) parcels on older plan types, such as Lot 3 on FR14, using the Free-Text option in the Title Search tab.

This article shows you when to use Free-Text, how to enter an older QLD lot/plan reference and what you can order once Landchecker finds the parcel. Anyone with a Landchecker account can order QLD documents on any plan.

What Is an Older Queensland Lot/Plan Reference?

A lot/plan reference identifies a parcel of land by its lot number and the registered plan it sits on. Most current Queensland parcels sit on one of these three plan types:

  • SP (Survey Plan): used from 1997 to the present

  • RP (Real Property Plan): used up to 1997

  • CP (Crown Plan): used from 1992 to 1997

Some Queensland parcels still sit on older plan types that predate CP, RP and SP plans. Lot 3 on FR14 is one example. These older plan types can't be found using the Structured search mode, so you'll need to search for them using Free-Text.

Structured vs Free-Text Search Mode

When you search a QLD property by Lot/Plan in the Title Search tab, Landchecker gives you two search modes:

  • Structured: you enter the lot and choose the plan type and plan number in separate fields. Use it for parcels on current plan types.

  • Free-Text: you type the whole lot/plan reference into one Lot/Plan field. Use it for older plan types that Structured mode doesn't list, or whenever you'd rather type the reference as it appears on your documents.

When Should I Use Free-Text for a QLD Lot/Plan Search?

Use Free-Text in the QLD Title Search tab when:

  • the plan type on your QLD lot/plan reference isn't listed in the Plan Type options

  • you have an older QLD lot/plan reference from a previous title, contract or council document and the structured search can't find it

If your QLD parcel is on an SP, RP or CP plan, the structured Lot/Plan search works as usual.

How to Search for an Older QLD Lot/Plan Reference Using Free-Text

Follow these steps to find an older QLD lot/plan reference in the Title Search tab. We'll use Lot 3 on FR14 as the example.

  1. Choose Document Searches in the top navigation bar. The Title Search tab opens by default.

  2. Enter your Job Reference if you'd like to use one, then choose QLD under State.

  3. Under Search By, choose Lot/Plan.

  4. Choose Free-Text.

  5. Enter the lot and plan separated by a forward slash, for example 3/FR14.

  6. Choose Search.

Landchecker shows the title reference and property details for the QLD parcel, so you can check it's the right one before you order.

How to Format an Older QLD Lot/Plan Reference in Free-Text

Enter the lot number first, then a forward slash, then the plan type and plan number with no spaces:

  • Lot 3 on FR14 → 3/FR14

  • Lot 33 on AP7900 → 33/AP7900

What Can I Order Once Landchecker Finds the QLD Parcel?

Once the Free-Text search finds your older QLD lot/plan reference, you can order the same documents you'd order for any other QLD parcel, including:

  • a QLD title search

  • a copy of the plan

  • other property searches listed for that parcel

Tick the documents you need, then add them to your cart and check out as usual. See How to Complete a Title Search in Queensland for the checkout steps.

Common Questions

Why can't I find my QLD plan type in the Plan Type list?

The structured Lot/Plan search lists the current Queensland plan types, such as SP, RP and CP. Older plan types that predate these, such as FR, aren't listed. Choose Free-Text and enter the lot/plan with a forward slash instead, for example 3/FR14.

How do I enter an older QLD lot/plan reference in Free-Text?

Enter the lot number, a forward slash, then the plan type and number with no spaces, for example 3/FR14.
