How to Convert Parcels in Your Consolidated Sites into Shapes

Written by Airah Oquias

Once you have created a consolidated site in Landchecker, you can convert each parcel into a reusable shape and save it in your tools library. This feature allows you to reference the same site area across different projects without having to recreate it each time.

What Does Converting to Shapes Mean?

Converting parcels to shapes takes the property boundaries from your consolidated site and saves them as drawing objects in your tools library. These shapes can then be:

  • Reused in other projects

  • Duplicated for different scenarios

  • Modified or annotated as needed

  • Moved or repositioned on the map

The original consolidated site remains intact on your map, so you can continue to access the consolidated site information and reports.

Why Convert Consolidated Sites to Shapes?

Converting consolidated sites to shapes is useful for property professionals including town planners, architects and property developers because it:

  • Saves Time

You don't need to manually recreate the same property boundaries for every assessment or project.

  • Enables Reuse

Use the same site boundaries across multiple projects or scenarios without starting from scratch.

  • Supports Flexibility

Modify, duplicate or rearrange shapes as needed for different planning purposes.

  • Maintains Accuracy

Preserve exact property boundaries without redrawing, ensuring consistency across your work.

How to Convert Parcels into Shapes

Follow these steps to convert the parcels in your consolidated site into reusable shapes.

Step 1: Create Your Consolidated Site

First, create a consolidated site by combining multiple properties on the Landchecker map using the site consolidation tool.

Step 2: Select Property Boundary Options

After creating your consolidated site, click the Property Boundary Options button on the right-hand side toolbar.

Step 3: Click Convert to Shape

The action bar will appear at the bottom centre of the map. Click Convert to Shape and enter a group name.

Step 4: Enter Draw Mode

You will automatically enter Draw Mode. The shapes representing each parcel in your consolidated site will appear in the tools library on the left-hand side menu, saved as a group.

Step 5: Access Your Shapes

The converted shapes are now available in your tools library for use in current and future projects.

Important: The original consolidated site remains on your map. You can still save your consolidated site to a project and download a consolidated site report as normal.

How to Ungroup Converted Shapes

When you convert a consolidated site to shapes, the parcels are saved as a grouped set in your tools library. You can ungroup these shapes if you need to work with individual parcels separately.

Step 1: Locate the Grouped Shapes

Find the grouped shapes in your tools library on the left-hand side menu.

Step 2: Open the Menu

Click the three-dot button beside the grouped shapes.

Step 3: Select Ungroup

Choose Ungroup from the dropdown menu.

The shapes are now separated and can be managed individually in your tools library.

How to Duplicate Shapes from Your Consolidated Site

You can duplicate the converted shapes if you need the same boundaries for a different project or scenario.

Step 1: Locate the Shape

In the tools library, find the specific shape you want to duplicate.

Step 2: Open the Menu

Hover over the shape, then click the three-dot button.

Step 3: Select Duplicate

Choose Duplicate from the dropdown menu.

A copy of the shape is created in your tools library.

How to Move Multiple Shapes in Bulk

If you need to move several converted shapes at once, you can select and move them together.

Step 1: Hold the SHIFT Key

Press and hold the SHIFT key on your keyboard.

Step 2: Select Multiple Shapes

While holding SHIFT, click each shape you want to move. All selected shapes will be highlighted.

Step 3: Move the Shapes

Click and drag the selected shapes to move them together to a new location on the map.

Difference Between Consolidated Sites and Shapes

It's important to understand the difference between consolidated sites and converted shapes:

Consolidated Sites

  • Show combined property data (land size, frontage, zoning)

  • Can be saved to projects

  • Generate consolidated site reports

  • Remain linked to property information

Converted Shapes

  • Saved as drawing objects in the tools library

  • Can be reused across projects

  • Can be modified, duplicated and moved

  • Are independent of property data updates

Both serve different purposes and can be used together in your workflow.

Next Steps After Converting to Shapes

After converting your consolidated site parcels to shapes, you can:

  • Save the shapes to your tools library for future use

  • Duplicate shapes for different project scenarios

  • Add annotations or labels to the shapes

  • Export shapes for use in other applications

  • Continue working with the original consolidated site data
