WebGL (Web Graphics Library) is the technology that powers Landchecker's interactive maps and visualisations. If you're experiencing display problems like blank maps, missing layers, or error messages mentioning WebGL, here's how to fix it.
What is WebGL?
WebGL allows your browser to render interactive 3D and 2D graphics without requiring additional plugins. Landchecker uses WebGL to display property maps, aerial imagery, and planning overlays. When WebGL isn't working properly, you may see error messages or maps that fail to load.
Check if WebGL is enabled in your browser
WebGL might be disabled in your browser settings. Here's how to check and enable it:
Chrome
Type chrome://settings in your address bar and press Enter
Search for "hardware acceleration" in the settings search bar
Make sure "Use hardware acceleration when available" is turned on
Restart Chrome
Firefox
Type about:config in your address bar and press Enter
Click "Accept the Risk and Continue"
Search for webgl.disabled
If it shows "true", double-click it to change it to "false"
Restart Firefox
Safari
Go to Safari menu > Preferences
Click the Advanced tab
Check "Show Develop menu in menu bar"
Go to Develop menu > Experimental Features
Make sure "WebGL 2.0" is enabled
Restart Safari
Edge
Type edge://settings in your address bar and press Enter
Search for "hardware acceleration" in the settings search bar
Make sure "Use hardware acceleration when available" is turned on
Restart Edge
Update your graphics drivers
Outdated graphics drivers can cause WebGL to malfunction or fail completely. Updating your drivers often resolves display issues.
To update your graphics drivers:
Identify your graphics card (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, or integrated graphics)
Visit your graphics card manufacturer's website
Download the latest drivers for your specific card model
Install the drivers and restart your computer
Try accessing Landchecker again
Update your browser
Older browser versions may have WebGL compatibility issues. Make sure you're using the latest version of your browser.
To update your browser:
Chrome: Click the three dots menu > Help > About Google Chrome (updates automatically)
Firefox: Click the menu button > Help > About Firefox (updates automatically)
Safari: Update through Mac App Store or System Preferences
Edge: Click the three dots menu > Help and feedback > About Microsoft Edge (updates automatically)
After updating, restart your browser and try accessing Landchecker again.
Try a different browser
If WebGL still isn't working after enabling it and updating drivers, try accessing Landchecker in a different browser. Some browsers handle WebGL better than others depending on your system configuration.
Recommended browsers for Landchecker:
Google Chrome (usually has the best WebGL support)
Mozilla Firefox
Microsoft Edge
Safari (for Mac users)
Disable browser extensions
Some browser extensions can interfere with WebGL rendering, particularly privacy extensions, ad blockers, or security tools.
To test if extensions are causing the issue:
Open your browser in incognito or private mode (extensions are usually disabled here)
Try accessing Landchecker
If it works in incognito mode, one of your extensions is likely causing the problem
Disable extensions one by one to identify which one is interfering with WebGL
Check your hardware acceleration settings
Hardware acceleration uses your computer's graphics card to handle intensive visual tasks. If it's disabled or not working properly, WebGL won't function.
Make sure hardware acceleration is enabled in your browser settings (see the "Check if WebGL is enabled" section above for specific instructions for each browser).
